What are Skills Bootcamps in HGV Driving?
The Skills Bootcamps in HGV driving are intense, 16-week driving courses that are part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee.
These bootcamps are funded by the Department of Education and are curated to help individuals acquire the skills required to drive HGV vehicles. Drivers can obtain Category C&E (articulated) licence.

Unemployed individuals receiving benefits who do not currently hold an LGV C or C+E licence

Unemployed participants in the Restart or JETS schemes who do not hold an LGV C or C+E licence

Employed individuals whose current employer can offer them a new role as an LGV C+E driver upon licence completion

Legal Requirements

Must have the right to work in the UK

Hold a full UK car driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points

No history of disqualification for offences such as drink/drug driving, dangerous driving, or criminal driving-related activity
Career Commitment

Be committed to working as an HGV driver after completing the course
Medical Requirements
- Be able to pass a DVSA medical examination
- Blood pressure medication is acceptable if the condition is well controlled
- Neurological conditions, even if managed with medication, may disqualify candidates
- Eyesight in both eyes must meet DVLA / DVSA standards, with or without corrective lenses
Course Roadmap
What to expect from the programme
Initial Checks: You will be required to pass the medical and apply for a provisional licence. You will also be required to train and complete your theory driving tests.
Classroom & Virtual Training: This mix of training will help to make sure you can complete the course and fit it in around your current commitments.
Practical Driver Training: You will be given all the knowledge and practical skills you need to successfully pass your practical test, whilst under the guidance of our expert driving instructors. This can take around 1-2 weeks.
Dedicated Learning Advisor: You will be assigned a learning advisor who will be on hand to offer support and guidance throughout the course.
Job Interview: Your participation in the Skills Bootcamp in HGV Driving guarantees you an interview with an employer, helping you secure a driving job as soon as possible.
